DC Srinagar flags off cycling program ‘Pedal for Democracy’ | KNO

SRINAGAR, NOVEMBER 29 (KNO) : In a bid to ensure maximum participation of people in the electoral process, an awareness cycling program "pedal for democracy" was today held under Systematic Voter Education Electoral Participation (SVEEP). The program was flagged off by DC Srinagar, Dr Syed Abid Rashid Shah who is also Srinagar District Election Officer. The cycling started from Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) and culminated at Botanical Garden. The program was organized by Nodal Officer SVEEP, Srinagar, Waseem Raja on behalf of District Election Officer, Srinagar in collaboration with Directorate of Tourism, Kashmir. On the occasion, Director Tourism Mahmood Ahmad Shah, ADC Srinagar Purnima Mittal, ADC Srinagar, VikasKundal, SSP Trafic Tahir Saleem, Noda Officer (SVEEP) Waseem Raja and SVEEP representative Taufeeq Gazi, Electoral Registration Officer Hilal Ahmad Deewani, Deputy Director Tourism, Riyaz Ahmad Beigh and other concerned officials were present. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Abid said that these activities are organized to create awareness among the children who have become eligible for electoral enrollment by attaining the age of 18 years. He said that many such activities will be carried out in future to create awareness as well as fitness among the children. Dr Abid also appealed the people to cooperate and participate in the elections and take the democracy to the grass root level. Later, the participants were apprised about the importance of participation in the electoral process and the specials focus was given to the first-time voters who by attaining the age of 18 years have become eligible for voting. The participants were also apprised about the process of filling the form to get enrolled in the voter list.(KNO)
